For over two years, Pastor Curt has been mentoring an ex-prisoner in Tioga County with weekly visits. This has given him opportunity to also connect with other men who have finished their sentences and are continuing to rebuild their lives in the county. Much of mentoring is being a friend to someone and that takes on lots of different forms spiritually and practically. Life can change a great deal for someone who has spent years in a state correctional facility. A mentor might have to teach them to use a debit card to pump gasoline, how to use a smart phone, or listen as they pour out their hearts concerning the struggle of meeting the requirements of parole/probation or getting acclimated to life on the outside.
Judy Eaton has been teaching a Bible study at Tioga County Jail for several years. Many of the women begin to see her as a spiritual mother and continue to stay connected with her once they leave the facility.
We are grateful for the welcoming churches in Tioga County that are willing to disciple those men and women returning to the community.
Tioga County is also the home of Renovation House, a Christian transitional residence for those that struggle with addiction issues. This gives Golden Key a wonderful place to refer men that need extra help and support before returning to their homes and community. Rev. Manuel Achillia and his staff provide a wonderfully supportive and instructional atmosphere for those seeking victory over addictions.
